7R consists of 29 students. We have seen many changes this year since becoming year 7 students. We have had to step up to the responsibility of becoming leaders, for some of us, officially e.g school captains, vice captains and sports captains. For all of us, the general expectations are greater but we have stepped up to the test so far. We studied Australian History first term and learnt about Australia Day, The First Fleet, convicts, The Stolen Generation, The Gold Rush, the Vietnam War, World War One and World War Two, refugees and Immigration. The students loved learning about their country and other countries that have contributed to the Australian identity. This term we have been preparing children for the participation in the National Literacy Year 7 test. We have been reading and writing a variety of texts, looking at the purpose of the text, intended audience, structure, descriptive language and language conventions, all of which are being assessed in the test. The students will produce their own science fiction narrative for cycle assessment this term based on this knowledge.
We have also been looking at a cycle of science work called, “Package it better,” which involved us in the early stages, designing a suitable package for an egg that had to drop for 2 metres! It was a challenge and not many eggs survived. We will keep you posted on our new and improved packages closer to the end of term. |
