This term in Year Four we are investigating the issue of ‘Individuals and Groups have made significant contributions to change and maintain Australian communities, heritages and benefits.’

We are studying the trials and tribulations of the First Fleet as well as the obstacles encountered during the establishment of penal and free settlers. Explorers of Australia are being studied and their accomplishments. We are also focussing on the qualities explorers would need to reach their goals and relating this to who in our community also demonstrates those qualities.

The students of year four will by writing a biography on a famous Australian explorer. When these are completed we will take some photos of them for you to view on this site. The other form of assessment is that the children are writing a personal letter as if they are an early settler, convict or explorer.

Throughout the term we will be building on the student’s knowledge of early Australia in the form of mapping, reading and viewing, comprehension activities as well as concentrating on literacy and numeracy. Art activities will also be completed.

We will also be attending an excursion to St Helena Island to consolidate our knowledge concerning Early Australia. Come back and check this web site for photographs of our adventure.
