Prep Enrolments and Transition Opportunities

The Preparatory (Prep) year is the first year of school for your child. It is a full-time program that runs five days per week. Your child is expected to attend full-time in order to get the most from the Prep year.

Age is the only criterion for enrolment in the Prep year for Queensland children. Your child must be five by 30 June in the year they enrol in Prep. To find out when your child is eligible to enrol in the Prep year please see the table below.

Prep Open Day

Saturday 10th June: 9:00 - 11:00

We understand that parents are busy and work commitments make the week days quite chaotic at times. Our Open Day is on a Saturday morning, which allows for the whole family to come along, join the fun and meet our P-6 staff. Our staff have organised a large range of learning activities for our ‘Preppies’ to take part in. Guided tours of our campus will be provided on this day in addition to the PCYC which operate our outside school hours care.

Prep 2018 interviews commencing August

Bookings for interviews will commence in August 2017. Please contact the school office to make an appointment.

During this interview, we will complete a simple assessment screener with your child, which the school then analyses. We use this data to assist us in getting to know your child and it enables us to cater for him or her. Each child enrolling in Prep for 2018 will need to attend an interview prior to starting at Shailer Park State School.

Prep Play Day

Friday, 10th November - 9.30-11.00am

This orientation day provides our 2017 students with an opportunity to meet our teachers and spend the morning in our Prep classrooms. This gives them the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the buildings and classrooms in addition to getting to meet some new friends and take part in hands-on learning activities. While the ‘Preppies’ are having fun in their new classrooms, the parents are invited to stay, meet other parents and familiarise themselves with some classroom activities such as:

  • Home readers, Sight Words program and Homework Policy.
  • iPads in the classroom.
  • What reading groups and maths groups look like.
  • Discover our literacy and numeracy website subscriptions.
  • Learn about our School Wide Positive Behaviour philosophy.
  • The structure of a day in Prep.
  • Our curriculum priorities.
  • Meet our wonderful staff
  • Where to buy our school uniforms.
  • What you can help with prior to the commencement of Prep
